🏑 Every Village Has a Story… It’s Time to Tell Ours.
As promised at our Annual Parish Meeting in May, we’re incredibly excited to launch our first Stokenchurch History section on the Parish Council website!
This is just the beginning, but thanks to the incredible dedication of village historians Sally and Patricia Prentice, we’ve already uncovered the remarkable stories behind the names on our recently restored Beacons Bottom WWI and WWII memorial plaques.
These are people who once walked our streets, lived in our homes and answered the call to serve. Their journeys took them from our small village to battlefields and countries across the world, including Turkey, Canada and Australia.
Over the coming months, we’ll be adding the stories of every Stokenchurch hero who gave their life in both World Wars, preserving their legacy for generations to come.
But that’s not all…
Did you know Stokenchurch’s history includes everything from film directors to bare-knuckle boxing champions? We’ve uncovered some truly fascinating stories, and we’re only scratching the surface. There’s so much more to discover, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
⭐ Now it’s over to you…
What would you like us to research next?
πŸ•°οΈ Old buildings? 🌳 The Common? 🏫 Schools? πŸ“· Old photographs? πŸ‘» Local legends and folklore?
Or is there another piece of Stokenchurch’s history you’d love to learn about?
Would the idea of a Stokenchurch History Society, with monthly talks, guest speakers and opportunities to share memories, photographs and artefacts appeal to you?
πŸ‘‡ If that’s something you’d like to see, let us know in the comments section on Facebook. Or alternatively email: aseddon@stokenchurch-pc.gov.uk
